You can sell cookies to stores by following these 4 steps.

How to Sell Cookies to Stores

1. Research shops

First, create a list of all the stores that you want to sell to. You can use pen and paper. You can also create a spreadsheet or word document on your computer. You can use Google Maps and similar map applications to help you create the list.

Look at all the stores in your area. See which ones are good candidates for your cookies. For example, see if any stores are known for locally sourced goods. Other stores may already sell cookies, but they are open to carrying new varieties.

Write down the name of these stores as well as their address and phone number. Creating a list first will help you stay organized and save time.

2. Call the stores

Now, you must reach out to the stores that you are interested in. Start with a phone call. See if any stores are open to carrying new goods. Ask about the process for becoming a supplier. If there are stores that say they are explicitly not interested, then you can simply cross them off your list.

Focus your time on the other stores. Your goal is to schedule an in-person meeting with the stores that are interested. Write down the agreed-upon time and date.

3. Bring samples

This is the moment that you have been waiting for. Show up to the store and bring some cookies with you. Give the store owner time to eat a few. If they like the cookies, then that’s great. Now, let’s talk business.

How much will the store buy from you and how often? What are your prices? Initially, the store might order a small batch and see how customers react. If customers like the cookies, then the store will order more. Don’t be afraid to lower your prices if the store is ordering in large quantities. Your total revenue will still be significant.

4. Scale the business

Approach more stores and get more orders. Eventually, you will get multiple orders from multiple stores at once. At this point, it might no longer make sense to make the cookies from your home kitchen.

Consider renting a commercial kitchen. You can then make large quantities of cookies at a time. Commercial kitchens have large ovens, refrigerators, and more. You can hire staff to make more cookies and help you grow the business.
